Dedication and Blessing

On November 15, 2009, at 2 p.m., approximately 100 people gathered on the playground outside the portico, the new entrance to the Day School, for a service of Dedication and Blessing. We blessed the new entrance, and all those who would pass through the doors. We blessed the lobby and those whose gifts had made this building possible. We dedicated the new library to the teachers, past and present, whose ministry has been key to Trinity Church Day School success. The children led us from location to location with musical instruments, and the Bishop sprinkled holy water with every blessing. The four classrooms were blessed, with representatives of the Litsinger, Nelson and Lowery families leading the prayers in the rooms they have given. Finally, after passing through a new restroom so that everyone could admire the child-sized plumbing, we gathered in the multi-purpose room (which many are calling The Great Room) for the conclusion of the service. The Day School Children sang "Jesus loves the little children," Lynn and Fran thanked all those who had made this possible including Total Construction Services. George Brown, the president of TCS presented Trinity with a plaque. The Berry's led the Multi-purpose room dedication, and the Bishop pronounced a final blessing.

AND MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL, THE CHILDREN

On May 17 at 4 pm upwards of 60 people (no one took a head count) gathered behind the parish house, in an area marked out by neon surveyor's tape, for a service of ground breaking. After singing "Thank you Lord for this fine day" (and it was, as the rain had stopped hours earlier), making a couple of short speeches and praying for cooperative weather, lack of complications, and safety for all the workers, Senior Warden Jonathan Deford, Rector Fran Stanford, Day School Director Lynn Abplanalp, and Parents' Club President Mary Laudemann turned over the first shovels of dirt where the new building would be constructed. Then the real fun began as the children present, suitably clad in yellow "hard hats" with sunflower logos, took their turn, some with child-sized gold shovels and others grabbing the full-sized gold shovels the adults had used. By the time they were finished, the yard looked as if a pack of gophers had taken up residence! Day School and Church families mixed on the lawn and then back in the parish hall for refreshments. Everyone shared the joy and excitement that the long awaited, long worked for, day had finally come. We can't wait to watch the building being constructed over the summer and into the fall.

Actual construction began in July and should take approximately five months. Bishop Sutton will bless the new building Sunday, November 15, at 2 p.m. All friends and family of Trinity Church and Trinity Church Day School are invited to attend.
